Martin enjoyed a long career in both
communications and fund raising, then began
painting in the Spring of 2014 -- encouraged by
friends, Maria Sheets and Philip Martin, at the
Museum of Biblical Art. Some of her first acrylic
scenes were landscapes, but she quickly also
developed a love of the impasto technique (thick,
layered painting) with pallet-knife. Her style was
influenced by local Texas artists -- J. D. Miller,
Henrietta Milan, Michael Dudash and Mary Tomas,
along with Masters like Monet, Manet, and other
impressionists. Her mentors -- artists, gallery owner
and collectors -- continue to give her insights and
encouragement: Maria Sheets, Paul Zueger, David
Zueger, Tal Milan, Jeanette Korab Gorsky, Terrie
Stroud, Arnett Scroggins Dyke, Lauren Tollett Kee,
Scott Peck, Julie Dunn, Colleen Hahn, Ruth Buzzi
and Kent Perkins, Jane Cross, Jerry Singleton
